A newborn is lifted in and out dozens of times a day, and a baby who can stand needs a lower base for safety. The mattress base moves through three heights as they grow. Level 1, the highest: for newborn lifts in and out. Level 2, the middle: once your baby can sit up. Level 3, the lowest: once they pull up to stand, keeping them safely below the side rail.

BS EN 716 is the European standard written specifically for children’s cots: it tests structural strength, the spacing between slats, the height of the sides and any point that could trap a small finger or limb.
